A wonderful 10 day holiday exploring the very best of the Austrian Lake District & Sound of Music Country
We’re heading back to the stunning Austrian Lake District for a lovely summer holiday based in the heart of the elegant spa town of Bad Ischl, at the 4 star Hotel Goldenes Schiff, a well-established family run hotel. This wonderful location give us the opportunity to explore the region and take in the spectacular scenery, much of which was used in the filming of the iconic blockbuster The Sound of Music. We’ll spend a day in the musical City of Salzburg which featured heavily in the film and was also the home to Mozart, there’s a circular Lakes excursion where we’ll see the Lakes of Traunsee & Attersee before stopping off in Mondsee – home to the church where Von Trapp & Maria were married. Then onto St. Gilgen on the shores of Lake Wolfgang, here we hop on a boat to enjoy a sail to St. Wolfgang and enjoy free time. Our final excursion is a short trip to one of Austria’s most photographed spots Halstatt on the shores of Lake Halstatt with 16th-century Alpine houses and alleyways are home to cafes and shops.

Day One
We've early morning HOME pick ups as we travel to Dover for the lunchtime ferry over to Calais. We then make the journey to the Laon area for our overnight stay

Travelling from Laon towards Stuttgart where we have our second overnight stay
B, EMDay Three
From Stuttgart we head into the beautiful country of Austria and arriving at our hotel in the lovely town of Bad Ischl in time to settle in before dinner.
B, EMDays Four to Seven
During your stay enjoy free time around lovely & historic Bad ISchl - Emperor Franz Joseph I spent no less than 82 summers in Ischl since 1830 and celebrated 81 birthdays there. But even before the town became Franz Joseph's summer residence in the 19th century, several emperors and other members of the family stayed here. There are museums to explore, a bustling shopping scene, the river running through town provides lovely views and there's also a Cable Car which takes you up the Katrin Alp for specuatlar views. During your stay we have also included three lovely excursions :
B, EMEXCURSION 1
We enjoy a beautiful scenic cirrcular Lakes Tour today, leaving Bad Ischl we pass Lake Traunsee and Lake Attersee, before enjoying a stop off in Mondsee - see the Church where Von Trapp married Maria here, we then continue on to St Gilgen and here we join a Boat Trip which takes us along the scenic waters of Lake Wolfgangsee, our sail ends in St Wolgang and we'll enjoy some free time here before returning back to Bad Ischl. A truly spectacular and scenic excursion
EXCURSION 2
Today we head to the lovely Music City of Salzburg - the birthplace of Mozart and much of its landmarks were used in the filming of the "Sound of Music" – why not take a romantic Faiker (Horse drawn cab) as Maria and the children did, or take the funicular and head up to the fairytale castle for stunning views across the city
EXCURSION 3
A short excursion today takes us to one of Austria's most photographed and most beautiful spots .... Halstatt on the shores of Lake Halstatt with 16th century Alpine Houses, narrow streets with cafes and shops and a funicular railway taking you up to Salzwelten - it's as if you have stepped into a fairytale
Day Eight
Leaving Austria behind today we head back into Germany for an overnight stay once again inthe Stuttgart area

From Germany into Northern France for our final overnight stay in the Arras area

We make the short journey back to Dunkirk/Calais for our sailing back to the UK and then onward from Sover back to the North West for approximately 8pm,

Hotel Goldenes Schiff * * * *
Situated right in the heart of the lovely spa town of Bad Ischl, the 4* Goldenes Schiff has been in the heart of town since 1821 and has been in the same family since 1932.
The hotel has 56 well appointed guest bedrooms, (nearly all with walk-in shower), a lift, restaurant, dining room and terrace overlooking the river. The hotel's wellness area includes a sauna and steam room.
